3 Ways to Combat HVAC Emergencies after Hours

Below is a list of some of the more common HVAC problems that do not always require an emergency after hours HVAC repair visit, and what to tell your customers when they call about them.
Check the Circuit Breakers
On occasion, an air conditioner or heater won’t turn on because a circuit breaker tripped. Getting things back up and running only requires you to flip the breaker back into place. There is a caveat about this fix, though. If the air conditioner or heater shuts off again after resetting the breakers, do not continue resetting the breaker. This is a sure sign something serious is wrong with your HVAC system, and it will certainly require a professional HVAC technician to come out and figure out what’s wrong.
Check the Air Filters
If you’re not experiencing the normal amount of warm or cool air from your vents, there could be an obstruction stopping or slowing the air flow. Severely clogged filters can cause this. When this happens, it means the filters need replacing or cleaning. After placing clean air filters in your HVAC system, you should observe an obvious and immediate increase in air flow.
Air Conditioner Doesn’t Produce Cool Air
There are multiple reasons to explain why your air conditioner isn’t producing the cool air you’ve come to expect. One thing you can do that doesn’t require an emergency HVAC visit is checking your outdoor compressor. Make sure the fan can spin freely and that there isn’t any debris obstructing the compressor from working properly. If there is, see if you can carefully and easily remove the debris. Do not take apart the compressor to anything, and don’t stick your hand into an area with moving parts! For example, if a tree branch is sticking out, you can carefully try to pull on it. But if you have to reach inside the grill to pull something out, let a professional handle the problem.
