3 Biggest Mistakes You Make before Calling an HVAC Technician

Call HVAC Technician

Figuring out how to improve your HVAC business can lead to an increase in products sold, and more installed systems means more opportunity to help customers with systems that need repair. Not all HVAC repair calls require a technician to fix the heater or air conditioner, and a few of these problems require only a few seconds to fix.

Here is a list of three mistakes HVAC owners make before calling an HVAC professional:

Mistake #1: Not Checking the Thermostat

Thermostats are relatively simple devices, but when they don’t work properly, they can take down the entire system. Before calling for HVAC repair service, check your thermostat for two things.

First, check the batteries. Many of the newer thermostats, even simple programmable ones, require batteries. And when they run low on battery power, they don’t work properly. This can result in an air conditioner or heater that doesn’t operate normally or doesn’t turn on at all.

Second, make sure the settings and programming are correct. Maybe the indoor temperature has been improperly set by a young child, for example. Go through your thermostat’s programming and settings to ensure everything is as it should be.

Mistake #2: Not Looking for Blockages

A common reason HVAC technicians get called out is because there isn’t enough air flowing out of the air vents. Besides blocked or closed air vents, a common reason for this is extremely dirty and clogged air filters. If you’re experiencing low air flow, check your air filters and make sure they’re not so dirty that they’re blocking the air from flowing.

Mistake #3: Not Checking Switches

Some HVAC systems have switches near the air handler. On occasion, the switches get turned off on accident, effectively shutting down the air conditioner and heater.
