How Much Can I Expect a New HVAC System to Cost?
Do your most common general service questions include this one?
You’ve heard them all, the general service questions that everyone wants the answers to. And what’s the most common? In the top 10 is certainly: how much can I expect a new HVAC system to cost? How do you answer this question for your customers? It’s easy to say, “It all depends,” but instead, try giving your customers some general guidelines to ease their mind and let them know you have their best interests at heart.
Here are some of the basics, in layman’s terms:
Cost Is Dependent on Size
The size of a home will be a factor in determining the appropriate HVAC capacity, which will help determine the initial equipment requirements and cost. Taking complete and comprehensive measurements of the home in question, gathering usage information, and making an informed estimate of size and capacity are what your customers are really looking for.
Cost Is Dependent on the Construction of the House
If the house is very old or very new, its age could affect the cost of installing a new HVAC system. Sealed windows, insulation, attics with insulation and sealing, walls and doors that are adequately sealed, and crawl spaces or basements all affect how well a home will maintain its heat or cool. How a home is constructed is a major factor in determining HVAC system needs and price.
Cost Is Dependent on Installation Requirements
Does the home have ductwork? If your customer wants central HVAC and their home does not already have ductwork, ductwork installation will be a factor in price. Let them know that right upfront. No ductwork? No problem! At that point, they will simply have a more specific selection of systems that can be used without ducts.
One thing that’s important for customers to understand is that the cost of a new HVAC system goes beyond the initial equipment purchase price. Lowering energy usage with more efficient equipment that results in savings on energy bills is a big consideration as well.
When general service questions come up, such as inquiries about the cost of a new HVAC system, be specific. Give your customers all of the information they need to make the right decision for their home.
